The DC Comics super hero Batman is a fictional character. He has become, along with Superman and Spider-Man, one of the world's most well-known comic-book characters. Batman made his debut in Detective Comics (1939), in a six-page story called "The Case of the Chemical Syndicate,". It was a typical pulp murder mystery, but with all the excess verbiage removed.
