A lot of people cannot leave without certain accessories and some of these include sunglasses. Aside from protecting our eyes from harmful sun rays, using sunglasses is also a way to showcase fashion and even enhance one’s overall look. Sunglasses come in a variety of styles and colours, as people’s face shapes differ. Getting the right pair of sunglasses isn’t just about its appeal to you; the pair must also complement your face shape to have better fitting. Below are some of the tips on choosing the best sunglasses for your face shape.

  1. The first thing you need to do is to measure your face. This is helpful in determining your face shape and size. You need a mirror, a tape measure, a pen or pencil, and a piece of paper for writing down your measurements. Position yourself in front of the mirror. Go for the cheekbone to cheekbone measurement first. Find the top of your cheekbone, right under an eye, and place the end of the tape measure there, then measure the distance to the same point of your other cheekbone.
  2. Next, find the ends of your jawbone, and measure one end to another. You now need to measure the length of your face by starting at the center of your hairline, over your nose tip, down to your chin. Finally, get the width of your forehead from the top of your hairline to the top of your eyebrows. Make sure to jot down each measurement!
  3. Once you’ve completed your measurements, you can use them to determine the shape of your face:
  • A round face has less defined angles, yet noticeable curves. Hence, it is ideal to get sunglasses that emphasize sharp angular lines to make your face seem thinner and longer. Square & rectangular sunglasses are recommended.
  • If your measurements have almost the same length and width across your face, you’re most probably a square-faced person, meaning you have a strong jawline and a wide forehead. Therefore, sunglasses with oval or round lenses should be picked to balance the sharpness of your face.

  • People with oval faces are lucky because they can wear any type and shape of sunglasses! However, they should skip large frames that can block their symmetrical features. They should go for sunglasses that cover the eyebrows to the cheekbones instead.
  • Oblong or rectangular faces have few angles, and are long & narrow. Small frames should be avoided, while oversized sunglasses are recommended. Rectangular lenses and thick frames can add width to a long face.
  • Oval and rimless frames complement the high or wide cheekbones of diamond-shaped faces, which often have a narrow jawline and forehead. Frames should have softer curves and must not be wider than the cheekbones.
  • Triangle or heart-shaped faces have wide temples and narrow chins. Sunglasses with wide lower edges that do not have straight lines along the top are recommended to elongate the face, while sunglasses with round edges will make the wearer have a more balanced look.

Are you ready to shop for the right sunglasses? With so many styles, colors, and designs available, you’ll easily find a pair that suits your face shape.
